Do Blu Ray players (not PS3) have the ability to update by downloads through ethernet or any way?

Best of my knowledge, no. You are supposed to call, using the 800 number to your machines manufacturer and they will send you an update disc. If you bought your player in the last six months, you don't need any updates, unless you bought an older model that was on sale.

Actually Junkie...if you have a cd burner on your cpu (hard to think of anyone not having one), you can download directly from the website onto a cd-r or cd-rw and pop that bad boy in the blu ray and get your updates that way. I didn't want to go through all the hassel so I got the PS3.

Also, some blu ray players come with ethernet inputs. that's another way to go. Sorry it took so long to reply, I see this was posted last year. Embarassed Embarassed Embarassed

I don't have a CD-Burner for blu-ray, so what are you trying to say? I also don't have my PS3 or my stand-alone Blu-Ray player hooked up to the internet either. So I guess that makes me a dummy!!!

you don't need a cd-burner for blu ray...a regular cd burner on you pc will work just fine. if you don't have the PS3 hooked to the internet, how are you getting your firmware updates??
